Jimmy Lee “Big Jim” was born June 25, 1954, in Tahoka to Andrew and Geneva Flournoy Smith. The family moved to Amarillo when Jimmy was very young. He attended Palo Duro High School.


Survivors include his wife, Johnnie; a daughter, Kiska Caldwell and husband Roderick of Kilgore; two sons, Kenneth Smith and Allen Armstong, both of Amarillo; a brother, Tommy J. Smith of Amarillo; three grandchildren; and many other relatives.

Mr. Steed was born January 21, 1959, in Lawton, Okla., to Jean and Cedric Steed Sr. He moved to Amarillo as an infant and was raised by Mary Frances Baldwin. He graduated from Palo Duro High School. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years and was honorably discharged. He married Tony Lavant on March 18, 2003. He was a member of Love Fellowship Church and was employed by International Paper Co. for many years.


He was preceded in death by his adopted mother, Mary Frances Baldwin; a brother, Ronnie Patterson; and a son, Tyree Steed.
