Jo Kathryn Stein, 64, of Amarillo died Monday, October 18, 2010.

Jo Kathryn was born July 7, 1946, in Hubbard. She graduated from Carver High School in Amarillo, class of 1964. She also attended Texas Southern University in Houston. She lived most of her years between the cities of Amarillo and Houston.

She accepted Jesus as her savior at an early age and united with Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she was a member for 50 years. Among other acts of Christian service and with a willing heart, she served as the secretary for Sunday school and worked in the youth department.

Jo Kathryn loved her family. She encouraged her family in every way possible. She wanted them all to know and be proud of their rich “Carter” heritage.

She took pride in caring for her younger cousins during her lifetime. She was called “J-Mommie.” She found great happiness in the smallest details and will be cherished by us all.

Survivors include two sons, James Elliott “Jimbo” Jones IV of Houston and Jacques Emyle Jones of Amarillo; a sister, Valery Jackson of Houston; five grandchildren, James Elliott Jones V, Jalyn Jones and Julia Jones, all of Houston, Jillian Jones of Colorado and Tyler “TJ” Garrison of Amarillo; two great-grandchildren, Isaiah Williams of Houston and Maximillion “Max” Garrison of Amarillo; her mother and father, Bennie and Willetta “Dear” Jackson; a cherished aunt, Rose Marie Davis of Fairfield, Calif.; and many other relatives and friends.

I think of You every time I cook gumbo, you was one of the best cooks I know, I remember when we use to get off from work at Cajun Magic and listen to music, one of our favorites being Gladys Knight, and the meals were always off the chain good. You never gave up on me as afriend and I will take that to the next life with me. Me and Andre have been married now 30 years I know you would have loved that, we think of you all the time and share great memories of love and good times. Until we meet again my Beautiful friend Wilma and Andre Aka Poo

Well, what can I say Sis other than I really miss you. You have a beautiful great-grandson named Isaiah from Lil Jimmy. He said there were enough James Elliot Jones' (7) so he broke tradition, smile. All I want to know is what you would have nicknamed the little fella? lol  I guess I'll have to wait until we meet again and we will meet again. Oh yea, everyone says Julia looks like you when you were little, she is so cute.        R.I.P. Ja-Mama, Love you more, always Met.
