
Autrey Bessie Williams

Autrey Bessie (Smith) Williams of Denver passed away on Saturday January 23, 2016. She was born August 29, 1927 in Amarillo, Texas to Jessie & Bessie (Manning) Smith. She graduated from Patton High School in 1942, and from there she went on to attend Prairie View College.
In 1945 she was united in marriage to Clifford Lee Austin where they were married for 27 years, and to that union they had a daughter Patricia Austin born November 11, 1946. After spending several years in Amarillo they moved to Colorado, where she remained until the time of her death.
Autrey was such a compassionate person who loved everyone and that is why when she went to work at Colorado Christian Home for Children it was such a good fit for her. She loved those children as if they were her own.
In 1978 Autrey was united in marriage to Robert L. Williams where they have been married for 32 years. After retiring it was her goal to spend as much time with her grandchildren as she could. One of her passions was cooking and baking for everyone, and she always wanted to make sure everyone had plenty to eat.
Autrey joined True Light Baptist Church in July 2001 and was a faithful member until her death. During her illness, she remained faithful in prayer and financial support of the ministry. She and Pastor Golson had a mutual admiration for one another and talked often.
She is survived by her husband Robert Williams (Denver), daughter Patricia Austin (Denver), step-daughter Joyce Williams (Orlando, FL). Son –in-law Chester (Helen) Johnson, Denver. Grandchildren Kim (Mike) Carlbom, Interior, SD, Tamara (Jesse) Toms, Gilbert, AZ, Makita (Oscar) Cotto, Denver, TeJon Williams, Denver, Robert L. Williams III and Kendralea Williams both of Atlanta, GA. Great Grandchildren Makail, Mya & Quinn Cotto, Denver. Tate & Camden Toms, Gilbert, AZ. Shyla Williams, Denver. Chase & Reagan Carlbom, Interior, SD, as well as nieces , nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceeded in death by her parents Jesse and Bessie, as well as her three brothers Bob, Lloyd and Ray.
