Mr. Steed was born January 21, 1959, in Lawton, Okla., to Jean and Cedric Steed Sr. He moved to Amarillo as an infant and was raised by Mary Frances Baldwin. He graduated from Palo Duro High School. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years and was honorably discharged. He married Tony Lavant on March 18, 2003. He was a member of Love Fellowship Church and was employed by International Paper Co. for many years.

He was preceded in death by his adopted mother, Mary Frances Baldwin; a brother, Ronnie Patterson; and a son, Tyree Steed.

Survivors include his wife, Tony Lavant Steed; three sons, Cedric Steed III and wife Samantha of Houston and Nashon Steed and La’Vahndric Steed, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Camencia M. Steed of Amarillo; his mother, Jean Steed of Houston; and two sisters, Darvinia Jeffries and Erica Bates, both of Houston.
