Otis Carey, 68, of Amarillo died Thursday, November 22, 2012.


Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012 in Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Vurn Martin, pastor, officiating and the Rev. Vernon Connor as eulogist. Burial in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St.


Mr. Carey was born December 9, 1943, in Big Spring to Earnest and Estella Carey. He attended schools in Amarillo. In October 1960, he enlisted in the Army, where he served until May 1966. He worked for several companies in Amarillo during his lifetime — Burlington Northern Railroad, Bell Helicopter and retired from Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospital. He married Rosa Houston on Sept. 15, 1990. He was a member of Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church.


Survivors include his wife, Rosa Houston Carey; six daughters, Ranona Carey Williams and husband Larry and Lisa Ahner, all of Georgia, Rosemary Houston, Jacqueline Houston and husband Henry Owens and Donna Houston Jones and husband Steven, all of Amarillo, and Kimberly Fields of Dallas; five sons, Otis Carey and Kevin Carey, both of Houston, and Kenneth Henderson, Otis Carey Jr. and Raymond Houston, all of Amarillo; three brothers, Earnest Carey, Nathaniel Carey and Jackson Carey; three sisters, Earma Conner, Estella Nelson and Robbie Fleming, all of Amarillo; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.
