Bernice Jenkins, 64, of Amarillo died Wednesday, July 2, 2008.

Services were at 2 p.m. Friday July 11, 2008 in Johnson Chapel AME Church with the Rev. Phillip Randle, pastor, and the Rev. Joe Taylor, pastor of Emmanuel Church of Amarillo, officiating. Burial in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St.


Bernice Jenkins was born May 20, 1943, to James and Rosie Hood in Texarkana, Ark. She came to Amarillo at a very early age. She attended public schools of Amarillo and graduated from Carver High School.


She was a good mother and homemaker and loved her church and pastor. She was a member of The Church of the Living God under the pastorage of the Rev. Howard Romaine. She enjoyed being around her family and friends who loved her very much.


She was employed by Brenda Michael for more than 20 years and assisted in raising her daughter, Mindy, who she loved as her very own. She also worked in Las Vegas for 10 years at the Binion Horseshoe Club.


Survivors include a son, Curtis Barlow and wife Vicky of Missouri City; her father, James Hood of Amarillo; four sisters, Betty Hood, Deloris Jones and Debra Harris, all of Amarillo, and Sedonia Hood of Lubbock; six brothers, Horace L. Hood, Charles Hood, Dennis Hood, James V. Hood, Tony A. Hood and Robert B. Hood, all of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
