Eloise Jean Pearson-Jones, 77, of Amarillo died Saturday, April 11, 2009.

Services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009 in Johnson Chapel AME Church with the Rev. Phillip Randle, pastor, officiating. Burial in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St.


Eloise Jean Pearson-Jones was born December 16, 1931, in Mexia to the late Fred and Eva Pearson. She moved to Amarillo as a very young child and attended Amarillo public schools, graduating from Carver High School, where she was the first football queen in 1949. She attended Tyler Barber College and worked for Hampton Barber Shop. She married Eddie Lee Jones on November 30, 1953, in Amarillo. She became the bookkeeper for E.L. Jones Trucking Co. Inc.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Willard and Artist Pearson; and two sisters, Leola Hill and Jessie Leanord.


Survivors include three daughters, Rosalind Perkins and husband Carey of Midland, Tommie Hamilton and husband Roushell Hamilton Sr. of Amarillo and Barbara Vickers and husband Harold of Dallas; eight sons, Anthony Jones and wife Cleda of Michigan, Delaware Jones of Arlington, Lee Artist Jones and wife Renee, Steven Jones and wife Donna, David Jones and wife LaNeshia and Michael Jones and wife Karen, all of Amarillo, and Eddie Lee Jones Jr. and Thomas G. Jones and wife Carolyn, all of Dallas; two sisters, Sophia M. Huff of Moreno Valley, Calif.; and Florence Chappel of Los Angeles; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.


The family suggests memorials be to Amarillo Heart Group, 1901 Port Lane, Amarillo, TX 79106.
