Born June 24, 1924, Eddie Moore was the youngest of three children born to the late Edd and Emma Moore in Kaufman. The family moved to Amarillo when Eddie was 5 years old. He attended Fred Douglas School and Patten High School before he went into the Army and served in England and Germany during World War II.
In 1950, he married Evelyn Norman in Amarillo and became the father of her four children. Later to this union was born a son, Edward Moore, who preceded him in death. Eddie and Evelyn celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last March, in rehabilitation, after he had been in rehab for three months.
He retired from Santa Fe Railroad in 1988 after 39 years of service working in the yards. Eddie was a member of Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church, where his work included serving on the trustee board for some 20 years. He was a member of Laymen Ministry, the Brother Chorus and worked on the culinary committee. Eddie began his church work later than many; however, after joining he served faithfully and enjoyed working in his church immensely. He received several awards as a “Mature Saint,” among others.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and a son, Edward Moore.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Evelyn; three sons, James Norman of Atlanta, Ga., Fennie Norman and wife Bridgett of Arlington and Royce Norman of Amarillo; a daughter, Christy Davis of Plainview; a niece, Shirley Cherry of Pittsburgh; a nephew, Vincent Cherry of Pittsbugh; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildrne. He is also survived by a “special granddaughter,” Teldra Betterson; a “special grandson,” Sam Betterson Jr.; and a “special caretaker” Carolynn Adams.
